JOSEPH V. CAVANAGH III

Joseph V. Cavanagh, III joined the firm in 2006 as a litigation associate. He practices general commercial litigation with a focus on breach of contract, fiduciary duty, business tort, construction, land use, and real estate litigation. He has served as counsel to municipal boards and commissions and as prosecutor for the Town of Smithfield, Rhode Island. Mr. Cavanagh has successfully litigated cases in federal and state courts in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and before state and municipal regulatory authorities. Prior to joining Blish & Cavanagh, he was an associate in the Boston office of Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo PC.
During the summer of 2001, he interned for Judge Mary M. Lisi at the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island.
Before attending law school, he worked at Trion Communications, Inc., a lobbying and political consulting firm in Providence, RI.
Mr. Cavanagh earned his B.A. in History from the College of the Holy Cross in 1999.
He was awarded his J.D. from Cornell Law School in May 2003. During law school, he served as Executive Bench Editor of the Cornell Moot Court Board and represented Cornell at the 2003 Willem C.
Vis International Arbitration Moot in Vienna.
He is admitted to practice in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
