Kristin E. Rodgers, a partner, has been with the firm since 1996. She is a trial lawyer with a diverse civil
litigation practice before state and federal courts in Rhode Island and
Massachusetts. She has represented clients in complex commercial
disputes, employment law, media law, contract negotiations and
litigation, construction litigation, and various land use matters. Her
media law work has involved litigation of libel and slander actions,
obtaining media access to various judicial proceedings, and prior
restraint litigation. She has participated in public panels on
First Amendment issues. She
also served as an assistant city solicitor for the Town of East
Greenwich and was responsible for prosecuting criminal
misdemeanors, advising the East Greenwich Town Council and East
Greenwich Planning Board on various legal matters, and representing the
Town Council before the East Greenwich Zoning Board and the State
Housing Appeals Board.
She is listed in the 2007-2008 edition of Chambers USA's guide to
leading business lawyers in America as one of the top lawyers in Rhode
Island in the area of General Commercial litigation.
She is an active member of the Rhode Island Bar Association, the
American Bar Association, and the Rhode Island Women’s Bar
Association, having served for five (5) years as a director of the Rhode
Island Women’s Bar Association. She is currently coordinating
and assisting in a federal jury outreach program sponsored by the
Federal Court Bench/Bar Committee to bring jury services information to
area high school students.
Ms. Rodgers is the author of “Childhood Sexual Abuse:
Tolling Statute of Limitations,” Journal of Contemporary Health Law
& Policy, Vol. 8 (1992), an early study of the evidentiary issues
arising from repressed memories, which issues continue to be widely
debated throughout the country today.
In 2000, she was appointed by the Rhode Island Supreme Court to serve
on its Character & Fitness Committee, a screening committee for all
applicants to the Rhode Island Bar, and she served as the Chairperson of
that committee since 2001. Mayor Scott Avedisian appointed her to
serve as the Chairperson of the City of Warwick Animal Control Shelter
Advisory Board in 2003. She served on the Professional
Group Fundraising Committee for the 1999 United Way Campaign and has
assisted in fundraising efforts for other local charities. Ms.
Rodgers is a member of the St. Thomas More Society. In addition to
her professional and community activities, she is active in local
triathlon and running groups. She completed her first Ironman
Triathlon in Panama City, Florida in November 2003 in 11 hours, 35
minutes and has run three marathons with an average time of 3 hours, 30
minutes.
She received a B.A. degree from Boston College and a law degree from
Catholic University of America.
